The decision of the Eleventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (Islamabad, 1980) adopting the first work program and the first budget

THE RESEARCH CENTRE FOR ISLAMIC HISTORY, ART AND CULTURE

The Eleventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers meeting in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, from 2-7 Rajab 1400 H. (17-22 May 1980)

RECALLING the resolutions adopted by the Islamic Conferences of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, Tripoli, Dakar and Fez;

TAKING NOTE of the action program and the budget of the Centre and the recommendations of the Fifth Session of the Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs, held in Conakry;

DECIDES:

  1. TO APPROVE the program of action of the Centre;
  2. TO APPROVE the budget submitted;
  3. TO URGE the Member States to pay their contributions which were approved by the Ninth Conference and fixed at three thousand dollars annually for each State;
  4. TO CALL UPON the Islamic Solidarity Fund to provide further assistance to the Centre;
  5. TO URGE the General Secretariat and the Turkish Government to sign the agreement on diplomatic status and customs exemptions for the Centre, as soon as possible.

The legal framework of the Centre's operations in Turkey, the country of its headquarters, is drawn by the "Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference on the Establishment in Istanbul of the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture" which was signed in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 16 May 1981, ratified by law no. 2657 of 14 April 1982 upon the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey, and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey, no. 17772 dated 4 August 1982. With this Agreement, the Republic of Turkey granted the Centre diplomatic immunities and privileges ensuing from its status as an international organisation.
