Second International Congress on “China and the Muslim World: Cultural Encounters” held at IRCICA, 3-4 February 2015

IRCICA and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) have jointly organized the second congress on "China and the Muslim World: Cultural Encounters" on 3-4 February 2015 at IRCICA's headquarters. The congress was opened with the message of H.E. Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of the OIC, which was read by Dr. Hassan Abedin, Head, Minorities Department, OIC General Secretariat. Opening addresses were delivered by Prof. Zhuo Xinping, Director General, Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and IRCICA Director General Assoc. Prof. Halit Eren. Papers were presented by 25 scholars and researchers from China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

The first congress on "China and the Muslim World: Cultural Encounters" was organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and IRCICA in Beijing, China, on 28-29 June 2012 (for a comprehensive report see IRCICA Newsletter no. 88, May-August 2012). The second congress adopted the same list of sub-themes as the first one, with "Encounters in economy" added to them taking into consideration that trade and economy were referred to during the first congress in Beijing in the context of some of the other sub-themes. Thus the sessions' sub-themes were: Historical encounters between China and the Muslim world; Encounters in Culture and Religion; Encounters in Culture and Arts; Encounters in Economy; Encounters in International Relations; Encounters in Culture and Education. Closing remarks were given by Prof. Zhuo Xinping, Director General, Institute of World Religions, CASS and Assoc. Prof. Halit Eren.
