The first Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition was inaugurated in Doha on 2 July 2024 under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H.E. Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim. The announcement ceremony was organized by the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) in collaboration with the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), in Fanar Centre’s premises. IRCICA Director General Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç was among the international invitees of the ceremony and accompanied Minister Al Ghanim in the unveiling of the competition’s title panel. Prof. Kılıç was accompanied in this event by Mr. Said Kasımoğlu, Chief of the Arts Section, IRCICA.
The competition is planned as a biennial event. It will be held in five branches, namely Jali Thuluth and Thuluth; Naskh; Nastaliq; Jali Diwani; Kufi.
