The 8th Kurultai-Congress of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, and the 20th Muslim International Forum on the theme “The Path of Peace: Dialogue as the Basis for Harmonious Coexistence”, took place in Moscow, Russian Federation, on 20-22 September 2024. Chaired by Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and Chairman of Russia Muftis Council, the Congress was attended by H.E. Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of Tatarstan Republic, the heads and representatives of religious organizations, governmental religious bodies, and public organizations from the countries of the Muslim world and traditional world religions. The Kurultai-Congress revised and adopted the past five years’ activities and re-elected the current Chair and Deputy Chairs of the Religious Board for a new term of five years. The event was dedicated to the following anniversaries of Muslims in Russia: The 1200th anniversary of the birth of Imam at-Tirmidhi, the 200th anniversary of the Moscow Historical Mosque; the 165th anniversary of the birth of Mufti Rizaeddin Fakhreddin; the 120th anniversary of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque; the 30th anniversary of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and Moscow Islamic Institute.
IRCICA Delegation composed of Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç, Director General, and Prof. Cengiz Tomar, Head of Research and Publications, participated in the event. Prof. Kılıç gave an address informing the audience about IRCICA’s activities corresponding to the conference theme, which contribute to reinforcing relations and dialogue between peoples of different faiths and cultures. The Director General also outlined the subjects covered by the academic and cultural cooperation between the Russian Federation and its Republics with Muslim populations and IRCICA.
The Russian Federation has Observer status with the OIC since 2005.
