Commemoration of the historian of science Cevat İzgi, at IRCICA

A meeting was held at IRCICA in commemoration of Mr. Cevat İzgi (1955-1995), a former staff member of IRCICA and researcher on the history of science, on the 30th anniversary of his death. In the meeting held at the IRCICA conference hall on 10 March 2025 the speakers, Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç, Prof. Cengiz Tomar, Prof. Mustafa Kaçalin and Prof. İhsan Fazlıoğlu spoke on the development of studies on scientific manuscripts in the Muslim world and the role and importance of Cevat İzgi’s studies and publications. In addition to the work he accomplished in the Manuscripts and Bibliographies Department that was headed by Prof. Ramazan Şeşen at IRCICA, information was given about his doctoral thesis, which at the time of his death was already completed for presentation. This thesis, which is a founding study in terms of providing an exhaustive list of manuscripts written since Katip Çelebi up to the 20th century in various fields of science, was introduced to the audience, along with his research on Islamic scholars in the Balkans region and during the Golden Horde period and his articles published in the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam.
