The international scientific-practical conference “The Ruler of Muslim Egypt: Sultan Beybarys from the Kipchak Clan and His Time” dedicated to the 800th anniversary of Sultan Beybarys (Baybars or Baibars, 1223-1277) was coordinated by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Nur-Mubarak Egyptian University of Islamic Culture and coordinated in hybrid format in Almaty, on 11 April 2023 with the participation of IRCICA. The opening session moderated by Prof. Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Rector, al-Farabi Kazakh National University, was addressed by Amb. Kairat Lama Sharif, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia; Prof. Dr. Muhammad al-Shahhat al-Jindi, Rector of Egyptian University of Islamic Culture Nur-Mubarak; Prof. Dr. Cengiz Tomar, Head of Research and Publications, IRCICA, Professor of Islamic history; Prof. Ashirbek Muminov, Consultant on Organizational Activities (Central Asian Studies), IRCICA, Professor of historical sciences; representatives from diplomatic, cultural and academic circles. Twelve research papers presented during the working session underlined the characteristics and historical importance of the reign of Sultan Beybarys from various perspectives, including governance, international relations, cultural identity, development of sciences and education, religion, the image of Beybarys as reflected in folkloric literature.
