On the occasion of the program “Anau Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2024”, an international conference themed “Ancient Culture of Anau” was organized by the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan through its Institute of History and Archeology, in the city of Anau on 27 March 2024. IRCICA was represented at the conference by Prof. Dr. Ashirbek Muminov, IRCICA’s Consultant for Central Asian Studies, who was invited to present a paper. Prof. Muminov’s power point presentation titled “Medieval Scholars of Turkmenistan: Contribution to the Development of Islamic Civilization” highlighted the scholarship, the works and scientific contributions of three prominent scholars: as-Sarakhsi (d. 481/1087-88), az-Zamakhshari (d. 538/1144) and at-Taftazani (d. 1390). The main purpose of the conference was to inform the international scholarly community about the ancient history of the Turkmen people and their cultural heritage, and develop academic cooperation to further advance research and publications in this field. The session themes were: ”The universal significance of the ancient culture of Anau and the relevance of its study” and “Ancient and medieval culture of Anau”.
