The International Scientific-Practical Seminar on “Manuscript Collections in Kazakhstan: Preservation and Research” was opened in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 19 May 2023. The two-day seminar organized by Nur-Mubarak Egyptian University of Islamic Culture (Almaty) and IRCICA has received 32 papers at the plenary and the working sessions themed “Activity of Kazakhstan Institutions in the Preservation, Restoration and Cataloging of Eastern Manuscripts”, “Experience of Turkic Countries in the Preservation, Restoration and Cataloging of Eastern Manuscripts”, “Monuments and Manuscripts in Arabic Script as Sources and Their Study”, along with 21 poster papers, all of them contributed by participants from Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, USA and Uzbekistan.
Two exhibitions were organized on the occasion: the personal exhibition of Kazakh calligrapher Asylbek Orynbassar and IRCICA’s exhibition titled “IRCICA Generations of Calligraphers: Award-Winning Works from IRCICA International Calligraphy Competitions”. The seminar heard the opening addresses of Dr. Nauryzbai Taghanuly Otpenov, Chief Mufti of Kazakhstan; Prof. Dr. Muhammad al-Shahat al-Jindi, Rector of Nur-Mubarak University; Prof. Dr. Cengiz Tomar, Head of Research and Publications, IRCICA, representing Director General Prof. Dr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç; Mr. Said Kasımoğlu, Chief of Arts and Handicrafts, IRCICA, presenter of the IRCICA exhibition. Prof. Dr. Ashirbek Muminov from IRCICA moderated one session and co-presented a paper.
