An International Workshop on “Academic Islamic Studies in the Russian Federation: Current State and Perspectives” was held at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences, in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, on 27 June 2019. It was conducted jointly by IRCICA and the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Opening remarks were given by Dr. Irina F. Popova, Director, Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, and Prof. Halit Eren, Director General of IRCICA. Greetings were addressed to the meeting by Academician Mikhail B. Piotrovsky, General Director of the State Hermitage Museum, and Dean of the Oriental Faculty, St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg. Greetings were also addressed by Prof. Stanislav M. Prozorov, Head of Research, Leading Researcher, Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
An exhibition of “Handwritten Copies of the Holy Quran” was opened.
During the working sessions, 20 participants from academies and universities in St. Petersburg and Moscow, in Makhachkala (Dagestan, Russia) and Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia) presented and discussed papers.
