The 6th International Forum on Arab Calligraphy and Ornamentation was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Aqaba, on 24-27 May 2023. The Forum, dedicated to the illustrious Calligrapher Hamid Al-Amidi (Aytaç, 1891-1982), comprised panel sessions and various institutions’ exhibitions relating to Islamic calligraphy and ornamental arts. Art institutions, artists and specialists from Algeria, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand, Türkiye, U.A.E., and Yemen, and an IRCICA delegation chaired by Director General Prof. Dr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç, participated in the Forum. Director General Prof. Kılıç addressed the inaugural session, opened IRCICA’s calligraphy exhibition consisting of works selected from among award-winners in its calligraphy competitions, and contributed to the panel with a comprehensive study on the life and works of the Calligrapher Hamid Aytaç underscoring his contributions to the art of calligraphy. On the occasion of the Forum, contacts and meetings were held with the representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Jordan and art institutions of various countries.
