The International Conference on “Islamic Arts & Architecture: Tracing influences in Nepal” was organized by The Mother Foundation, and held at Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 18-20 November 2024. The conference, accompanied by an international exhibition of arts and handicrafts, commemorated the UNESCO International Day of Islamic Arts – 18 November. The Former President of Nepal Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari was the chief guest of the conference. IRCICA Director General, who was invited to address the conference, spoke about the traditional spirit of Islamic arts as a factor that supports their continuity and worldwide expansion. Prof. Kılıç underlined the importance of examining the unique blends of mosque architecture and Islamic decorations with traditional Nepali styles and materials and the works of fine arts such as plates of calligraphy in Arabic script combining authentic Islamic styles with local tastes and natural materials. Prof. Kılıç briefed the conference participants on the aims and subjects of IRCICA’s studies on Islamic arts and architecture.
