IRCICA took part in the 20th International Conference of Orientalists

Dedicated to the 105th Anniversary of the Birth of Academician Ubaydulla Karimov

Abu Rayhan Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies of the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, jointly with the Institute’s Council of Young Scholars and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, have organized the 20th International Conference of Orientalists, Dedicated to the 105th Birth Anniversary of the Academician Ubaydulla Karimov on 23 April 2025 in hybrid format. IRCICA is one of the collaborating institutions of this annual conference and its books of proceedings.[1] The conference is a well-known academic event in its field that encourages the engagement of junior scholars alongside established scholars. It is a series dedicated to the Academician Ubaydulla Karimov (1920-1997), a chemist and at the same time a specialist in Oriental studies, produced valuable research-based publications that contributed historical evidence to the field on some important aspects of sciences in Central Asia.

The 20th conference was opened with the addresses of Prof. Bahrom Abdukhalimov, Vice President of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, Director of the Abu Rayhan Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies; Prof. Gulchehra Rixsiyeva, Rector of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, and Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç, IRCICA Director General. Then, the Plenary Session heard seven presentations of thematic studies, by Prof. Ashirbek Muminov (IRCICA) on “The importance of Chronology in the Study of the Cultural History of Central Asia”; Prof. O‘ktam Sultonov on “On the Issue of the Development of the Palace Office in the Turkistan Khanates”; Prof. Dilnoza Jamolova on “Issues of Turkistan History in the Publications of Hajji Mu’in”; Dr. Laziz To‘rayev on the “Description of European Manuscripts of Mahmoud al-Zamakhshari’s Rabi al-Abrar”; Dr. Salima Eshonova on “Collected Texts of the Divans: Interpretations and Approaches (The Case of Uvaysi’s Literary Heritage)”; Dr. Sevinc Bayramova, “Textological-Philological Analysis of the Copies in Azerbaijan of Ibn Sina’s Book Kanun fit-Tibb”; Dr. Ibrohim Usmanov on Legal Devices in the Hanafiya School.” The working sessions followed, with 20 papers presented at the session on “Historiography and Source Studies”; 18 under “History of Central Asia”; 11 in “Islamic Studies”; 15 on the “History of Countries Outside Central Asia”; 8 on “Philology and Literary Sources”.
