The sixth lecture in the series of online seminars conducted by Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and IRCICA, was about “The Scientific Heritage of Imam al-Darimi and Today”, on 14 November 2024. The guest lecturer, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım from the Faculty of Islamic Sciences of Yıldırım Beyazıt University (Ankara, Türkiye), author of the book Darimi (2023, Diyanet Foundation), explained the thoughts and works of al-Darimi in the fields of Qur’anic sciences, fiqh, and Hadith studies and his lasting influence on subsequent Hadith literature.
The 9th-century Central Asian Hadith scholar ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abdurrahman al-Darimi (d. 869, Merv) is well-known author for his collection of Hadith known as Sunan al-Darimi. He was also an authoritative scholar in Qur’anic exegesis and fiqh. Originally from Samarkand, he travelled to scholarly centers in the Hejaz, Egypt, Syria, Iraq – Baghdad, Kufa, and Khorasan. Famous Hadith scholars such as al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisa’i, and others studied with him and quoted Hadith from his Sunan.
