General Cooperation Meeting between the OIC and the UN

The 16th Session of the General Cooperation Meeting between the Secretariats of the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and their specialized organizations and agencies was held on 22-24 July 2024, at the headquarters of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) in Astana, Kazakhstan. The UN-OIC General Cooperation Meeting takes place every two years.

Prof. Cengiz Tomar, Head of Research and Publications, IRCICA, represented IRCICA at the meeting, which was co-chaired by Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General of OIC for Economic Affairs, and Ambassador Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the United Nations. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the relevant OIC institutions and UN agencies. Prof. Tomar briefed the meeting on the existing and potential areas of collaboration between IRCICA and the relevant UN agencies in the fields of inter-cultural relations and dialogue, development of arts, and preservation of cultural heritage. Areas of cooperation other than culture covered by the meeting include: the maintenance of international peace and security, conflict resolution, humanitarian assistance, as well as numerous economic, social and cultural issues. Concrete areas of cooperation and implementation of specific joint projects were considered.
