IRCICA will organize a commemorative event comprising a panel and an exhibition in memory of Ms. Mihin Lugal (1925-2022), who was a leading expert of librarianship. The event will be held on Friday, 20 October 2023 at 2 p.m.
Mihin Lugal worked in the Library of the Turkish Historical Society in Ankara for 33 years where her contributions included the transfer and application of the latest developments in library sciences taking place around the world. Starting from 1983 Lugal established a research library at Atatürk Cultural Centre, and joined IRCICA in 1987 at the invitation of the then Director General Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu. Lugal contributed importantly to the development of IRCICA Library and retired in 2013.
The speakers at the commemorative meeting to be held at IRCICA will be Mr. Argun Eren, Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, Prof. İlber Ortaylı, Mr. Nezih Başgelen and Mrs. Ayten Şan. A short film on Lugal’s life and activities will be shown; an exhibition of samples from the collection she donated to IRCICA Library and Archive will be presented.
The commemorative meeting will reflect a crucial segment of the history of development of librarianship in Türkiye.
