This book resulted from the international seminar on “Crafts in Traditional Islamic Architecture with Special Focus on Mushrabiyya and Stucco Coloured Glass: Present State and Future Prospects” which was organized by IRCICA in Cairo, Egypt, on 3-9 December 1995, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Egypt and with the co-sponsorship of the Middle East Broadcasting Centre, London. Its proceedings presented in the book evaluate the state and prospects of the Mushrabiyya and Stucco Colored Glass sector of handicrafts under its artistic, architectural and economic aspects. Samples and illustrations of works were displayed on the sidelines of the congress. The specialists presented studies on works of Mushrabiyya, Stucco Colored Glass and Qamariya from different regions of the Muslim world. They reviewed the related terminology, the kinds of wood used, as well as artistic and technical developments recorded in the East and the West throughout history.
