The archival materials inherited from the Ottoman State constitute a unique fund of references as regards the history of the countries which were once part of the Ottoman world. The collections preserved at the State Ottoman Archive attached to the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey consist of the thousands of documents issued by the Ottoman State. This publication contains the Arabic translation of the guidebook that was published by the Department of Ottoman Archive in 2000. The Introduction gives information on the Ottoman state archive system, the evolution of the archive, and classifications of the collections; another section describes the collections of maps, albums and photographs, collections transferred from personal archives and catalogues of documents contained in archives within and outside Turkey. The last section describes the administrative structure of the Department and the rules to be followed while doing research. An index is added to the guidebook.
