This is a two-volume Festschrift in honour of Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, who was the Director General of IRCICA from 1980 to 2004 and the Secretary General of OIC from 2005 to 2014 inclusive. The first volume contains fourty-five articles on the history, cultural life, arts and sciences of the Muslim world which were contributed by scholars from around the world. The second volume contains the views, impressions and souvenirs of İhsanoğlu’s colleagues, acquaintances, students and friends from academic, diplomatic, and cultural circles together with his biography, and a list of his publications. The Festschrift was coordinated and prepared for publication by a group of social scientists from IRCICA and from universities in Istanbul who were his collaborators for many years: Dr. Mustafa Kaçar (Istanbul University), Zeynep Durukal (IRCICA), Prof. Ali Akyıldız (Marmara University). The essays of the first volume are grouped in three parts: I. Ottoman History: the Centre, the Provinces, Studies and Sources; II. Cultural Life; III. History of science. The second volume highlights his academic and diplomatic accomplishments.
