The hundreds of thousands of documents contained in the Ottoman Archive preserved under the Turkish State Archives constitute original sources on the history of many countries and regions. IRCICA publishes sets of documents selected from this archive according to their subjects and publishes them with annotations in thematic volumes. The eighth volume in this series is devoted to Al-Aqsa Mosque. At the crossing of this series and IRCICA’s continuous priority focuses on the history of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Quds and Palestine, this book prepared by Dr. Fazıl Bayat (IRCICA) provides researchers and all those interested, with a set of official documents about Al-Aqsa complex issued during the 400-year Ottoman period in Al-Quds. The documents were issued by the Ottoman State for the purposes of protection and maintenance of the Mosque and its surroundings. The copies of the documents printed in the book are accompanied by their transcriptions in Ottoman Turkish, their translations into Arabic, and explanatory information. The book will be an important historical reference on the subject.
