IRCICA gives importance to constituting documentary reference funds and publishing objective studies on the Islamic history and cultural heritage of Al-Quds and Palestine. This book by Prof. Dr. Fatma Akkuş Yiğit (Head of the History Division, Social Sciences Institute of İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University) has been selected for publication for its meticulous chronological coverage of the history of Al-Quds from the Muslim conquest up to the beginning of the Ottoman period. The first part of the book is titled “Al-Quds from its Conquest up to the Mamluk Rule”. From the Pact of Caliph OmarRA through the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, then the first Turkish-Islamic states (Tolunoğlus and Ikhshidis), the periods of the Fatimids, the Seljukids, and the Crusader Kingdom in Al-Quds, this part covers the history of Al-Quds up to Saladin Al-Ayyubi and the aftermath. The second part focuses on “Al-Quds During the Mamluk Period”, under its aspects relating to political history, administrative and military systems, where the reader finds detailed information on the state structure, departments and officials. Third is the part dedicated to “Population, Social Structure, and Urban Life in Al-Quds” which contains in-depth information on the different religious, ethnic and language communities, institutions, and infrastructures. In the fourth, the reader finds, under the title “Mamluk Works in Al-Quds”, detailed reviews of the policies, characteristics, and works produced/constructed by each of the twelve Mamluk sultans from Baybars (1260-1277) to Qaytbay (1468-1496). IRCICA believes that for its time coverage and scientific approach, the book will meet a need.
