The Faculty of Theology of Marmara University and IRCICA collaborated to organize the international symposium on “Baghdad (Medinat al-Salam) in Islamic Civilisation”, with Ümraniye Municipality (Istanbul) as sponsor, on 7-9 November 2008 in the halls of Marmara University. It was a large-scale academic event with a wide subject scope, not restricted to any specific periods or topics, therefore covering all aspects of Baghdad during the Islamic period. The 74 papers which were presented during the symposium were published by the Waqf of Marmara University Faculty of Theology. The papers are in their language of presentation (Arabic or Turkish). The two volumes of papers constitute a rich body of literature on the history of Baghdad.
