IRCICA’s publication series on “The Arab Countries in Ottoman Documents” contains sets of documents relating to Arab countries selected from the Ottoman Archive of the Republic of Türkiye. The documents are original sources of great value for historians. They are presented in thematical chapters together with their transcriptions, Arabic translations and summaries by Dr. Fazıl Bayat (IRCICA). The first three volumes (2010, 2011, 2014) comprise documents from the periods of the Sultans Selim I (1512-1520) and Sulaiman the Lawgiver (1520-1566). The fourth volume (2015) is related to the Haramayn (Makka al-Mukaramah and Madina al-Munawwara) during the reign of Sultan Selim II (1566-1574). Volumes V and VI (2017) are related to the Iraqi provinces of the Ottoman State during the reign of Sultan Selim II (1566-1574). Volume 7 (2018) is about the Gulf region in the 16th century. Volume 8 (2019) concerns Algeria in the 16th century. Volume 9 (2020) is titled “The Muslims of Andalusia and the Government of Fez in the 16th century” and Volume 10 (2022) is related to Tunis in the 16th century. The main themes covered are the Ottoman administrative and financial policies applied in Arab lands, the waqfs, regulations on Hajj, complaints submitted by the people to state authorities, security measures protecting foreign tradesmen, among others.
