This book by Prof. Mohammad Ghosheh on the Islamic waqfs (endowments) of al-Quds published by IRCICA contains three main chapters: Chapter I deals with the 36 waqfs remaining from the Ayyubid period. Chapter II studies 107 waqfs from the Mamluk period, while Chapter III is on the waqfs of the Ottoman period numbering more than 1800. The book documents the history of endowments in the context of historical and urban-architectural developments. This comprehensive and highly detailed study includes tables showing the geographical distributions of the waqfs. The research is based on original sources including law court records, foundation deeds, architectural inscriptions, Ottoman archive documents and European sources.
