IRCICA’s third congress on Islamic Civilisation in the Balkans was held in Bucharest, Romania, under the patronage of the President of Romania H.E. Traian Basescu. It was jointly organised by IRCICA, the University of Bucharest, and the Academy of Sciences of Romania, on 1-5 November 2006. The congress received high quality contributions on various aspects of the theme, grouped in the book under the following subject headings: “Historical Background” (six articles), “Education, Culture and Art” (six articles), “Social Life and Rituals” (three articles), and “Miscellaneous Subjects” (five articles).
