A collection of twenty-four research papers on various aspects of the transfer of science from the West to the Muslim world in the past centuries. The papers were presented at the International Symposium on “Modern Sciences and the Muslim World” organized by IRCICA in 1987. The introduction of the book reviews the state of science in the classical period of the Ottoman State, which covered the greater part of the Muslim world at that time, and the Ottomans’ early contacts with Western sciences.
