This publication of IRCICA brings into focus some cultural aspects of development in the OIC Member States (45 countries at the time), evaluating the levels of activity and development on the basis of their statistical indicators and national development plans, as well as statistical yearbooks published by UN agencies and the World Bank and comparing them with world averages for developing countries. The aspects of culture covered in the study are grouped under the chapter titles of education, science, libraries and book publishing, museums, mass media, cinemas and performing arts. The study was undertaken at the request of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States following the proposal of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
