The Assistant Head of Research and Publications Department shall assume his/her tasks under the supervision of the Head of Research and Publications Department.

Summary of the Job and its Obligations

Will assist the Head in general functioning and direction of research in the Department, working in close partnership with the other department Heads, to ensure that the Department continues to lead research projects nationally and internationally. In addition, the Assistant Head must be ready to assist in managing, leading, and defining excellence across all IRCICA publications, works with the seniors to create all necessary collateral to publicize the events and programs of IRCICA.

Job Purpose

To assist the Head in maintaining and further develop the research capacity and programs of the IRCICA and to establish it as one of the top and primary research centric institutions in the muslim world by promotion of the research agenda of the department, careful administration, development of innovative programs, and world-class mentorship. To craft and shape the Publications strategy and quality execution for IRCICA.

Job Description

The Assistant Head of Research and Publications Department shall assist the Head in the following functionalities:

  • Define and implement what content excellence means at IRCICA, ensuring that every publication meets this quality bar and have an overwhelmingly compelling reason;
  • Set the strategic and creative direction of all IRCICA Publications, with guidance from the lead editors for each publication;
  • Work cross-functionally with teams Information Technology & Library and Archive to establish communication standards and actively support projects that enable IRCICA to establish its expertise;
  • Analyze the performance of historic and newly published Publications across key metrics and use these insights to guide future creative direction;
  • Be seen as an expert at the company for all things related to Publications, including the team’s structure, processes, resources, KPIs, and initiatives;
  • Lead the identification of future research topics and ensuring that the publication timetable (and the mix) of these research topics is effectively managed;
  • Oversee and manage the projects research team;
  • Engage, commission, and oversee authors for the Centre’s research publications, and build and maintain the network of such potential authors;
  • Continues the links and build new ones with related institutions, universities and governmental agencies and foster links for program development and ensure that the proper services are available to researchers;
  • Augments connections with the Programs of IRCICA that could serve for scholarly activities and research; as well as, participates in accreditation processes;
  • Serve as chief overseeing editor of the Centre’s publications and ensuring that all publication work is executed in a thoroughly professional manner;
  • Oversees the annual research activities of the department and submits an annual research report;
  • Identify grant and funding opportunities, and maintain familiarity with regulations and policies affecting researchers and associated staff, and communicates them effectively and efficiently;
  • Promotes knowledge transfer;
  • Participates in accreditation processes (for International Indexing Standards);
  • Communicates with different levels of government, non-governmental agencies within concerned fields and Represents the department at international research meetings;
  • Arrange participation as a departmental member in external research related activities/initiatives such as advisory bodies and professional associations;

  • Ability to work under pressure; 
  • Act as a model for timely accomplishment of assignments and punctuality;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Skilled at problem-solving, thinking analytically and developing programmes that advance the Department’s strategic objectives and mission;
  • Strong skills for sustained measurement of programme outcomes, ability to work independently and with others to achieve desired results;
  • Ability to conduct research in the Ottoman Archives, read Ottoman and be able to translate them into Arabic is preferrable;
  • Ability to carry out editorial work, research and write projects in the field of history, and compile them into books is preferrable;

Education

The candidate must have at least PhD degree in History or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 (seven) years of experience in a related area with at least 5 (five) years of Research in History and Basic-level leadership experience in higher education or supporting Research and Development.

Languages

Native Arabic speaker and Academic knowledge in English language, preferable to have professional knowledge in Turkish and Reasonable knowledge in reading and understanding Ottoman Turkish. Any other proficient Knowledge in related languages will be a plus.

General Requirements

  • To be a Muslim national of one of the OIC Member States;
  • To be below thirty-five years of age;
  • To be free of diseases and infirmities that may hinder the exercise of his/her duties;
  • To be either nominated by his/her State or his/her State should have no objection to his appointment;
  • The date of birth and contact numbers are essential requirements to be available in the C.V.
